The Incarnate Word Academy Physical Education Department strives to promote healthy lifestyles through fitness education and activities.
Physical Education Department Goals: * Work collaboratively to provide a variety of activities which will motivate students and promote engaged participation. * Collect data to measure student progress and growth. * Empower our students to be mentally, emotionally and physically healthy and apply such knowledge into their own lifestyles. * Utilize Shape America, Society of Health and Physical Educators, to refine and advance our teaching practices. |
The Incarnate Word Academy Fine Arts Department
strives to provide an excellent education to students in the disciplines of art, music, dance, and theater. Our goal is to nurture creativity and self-expression in the classroom and lead students to discover the excitement and fulfillment that comes when works are displayed or performed. We seek to promote self-confidence, cultivate personal and artistic growth, and foster opportunities for appreciation of the arts. Fine Arts Department Goals: * Increase the visibility of the Fine Arts Department at IWA. * Continue to increase interdepartmental collaboration * Provide more opportunities for our students to perform at higher levels within all artistic disciplines. |

Mrs. Grupe holds undergraduate degrees in Dance and Arts Management from Lindenwood University. She attended Webster University for her masters in Arts Management and Leadership. She has extensive training in ballet, jazz, tap and modern dance. Prior to IWA she taught dance at various studios in the St. Louis area. She also directed the St. Louis ArtWorks summer dance education program for 4 years, providing artist job-training and performance opportunities to teens. Mrs. Grupe performed with MADCO (Modern American Dance Company) for 6 years, where she served as dancer and choreographer. She has had the opportunity to perform at such places as the Dance Now Festival in New York, the Toronto Fringe Festival in Canada, Disney World in Orlando, FL and at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC.
Mrs. Grupe teaches Broadway Dance, Beginning Tap, Intermediate Tap, Dance Aerobics, Mind & Body Conditioning, Advanced Dance Technique, and Dance Choreography & Performance. Mrs. Grupe also choreographs the Spring Musical each year and directs the Dance Showcase.
