Broadway Dance
Broadway Dance is designed for the beginning dancer who wishes to learn the basic techniques of Broadway dance. Students will study movement in a variety of styles such as jazz, ballet, tap and contemporary. Students will also increase their knowledge of Broadway’s most high-profile choreographers and their famous works. Course material will be taught through movement demonstrations and exercises as well as lectures and performance reviews.
All Broadway Dance students should have a pair of jazz shoes which will be worn at every class meeting. Jazz shoes typically come in black or tan and can be slip-on or lace-up. There are several ways to get your jazz shoes:
- Shop at a dance supply store- this is the best way to ensure the right fit. Just look up one in your area and check business hours before you go. Dance Supply Etc. in O'Fallon and Head-To-Toe Dancewear in Kirkwood are two stores that are familiar with the shoes required for IWA classes. They also are offering discounts for back-to-school!
- Or, you can order from an online distributor, such as Discount Dance Supply. Just follow the sizing guidelines for the brand you choose because dance shoe sizing can be very different than street shoes.
- You may borrow a pair from a sister, friend or cousin that wears the same size. Just make sure you can keep them for the entire semester. You will need them every day in class!
Each student will need her shoes at least by the start of the second cycle.
